Lewandowski Allegations Could Influence Trump Endorsement in Missouri Senate Race

The Missouri US Senate race took a rather dramatic negative turn for the worse for one of the aspiring candidates. And to add insult to injury, the events facilitating that turn of bad luck for this candidate had absolutely nothing to do with the candidate themselves. Nor did these unfortunate events occur anywhere near Missouri.

That unfortunate Senate candidate is former Missouri Governor — and former Navy SEAL — Eric Greitens. Mr. Greitens is portraying himself as a sympathetic Donald Trump-like figure who was wrongly removed from office by the Jefferson City Swamp because he was a reformer who just wanted to clean up state government and make it more accountable to the people. That was a very admirable goal and many believed the Rhodes Scholar, former Navy SEAL, and philanthropist, had the skill set and determination to achieve those worthy goals.

Mr. Greitens, who let us know ad nauseam during his gubernatorial campaign that he was a former Navy SEAL, threw away his governorship and bright political career when he was accused of taking an unauthorized picture of his hairdresser mistress while they were down in his basement engaging in an extramarital tryst while his wife and children were out of town.

Fast forward three years, and the former Governor and Navy SEAL — who has mastered the exaggerated hand gestures, voice tone, and mannerisms of a late-night infomercial salesman — is making a political comeback by running for the Senate seat of retiring Roy Blunt.

To assist with this effort and to tie himself closely to former President Trump, the Greitens campaign has hired as an advisor, Donald Trump Jr’s girlfriend, former FOX News personality Kimberly Guilfoyle. The campaign has also hired Trump pollster Tony Fabrizio and has gained the endorsements of Rudy Giuliani, former New York police commissioner Bernard Kerik, Former Trump interior secretary Ryan Zinke, and former White House aides Boris Epshteyn and Sebastian Gorka.

This is a pretty impressive list that you would think would give Mr. Greitens — a former Navy SEAL — an upper hand in gaining the coveted Donald Trump endorsement. I thought just that — until yesterday’s stunning news about former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski. Politico.com:

“A Donald Trump donor is accusing Corey Lewandowski, one of the former president’s longtime top aides, of making unwanted sexual advances toward her at a Las Vegas charity event over the weekend.Trashelle Odom, the wife of Idaho construction executive John Odom, alleges that Lewandowski repeatedly touched her, including on her leg and buttocks, and spoke to her in sexually graphic terms. Odom said that Lewandowski “stalked” her throughout the evening…Four people who were first-hand witnesses at the event corroborated Odom’s allegations.”

“According to a statement provided by an Odom family attorney, Mrs. Odom stated that over the course of the dinner, Mr. Lewandowski tried to hold her hand, and she pushed his hand away. He touched her leg, and she moved it away. He grabbed her napkin off her lap and tried to touch her leg again, and she pulled her dress over her leg, to move his hand away and cover her skin,” Odom’s attorney wrote in the statement. “He touched her back and she tried to get away,” the statement continued. “He described an area where he was sore from a workout, on the side of his butt, but he demonstrated this by touching her there—on the upper side of her rear end. Lewandowski tried to touch her approximately 10 times, and Mrs. Odom always rebuffed him.

These aren’t the only allegations keeping Corey Lewandowski’s name in the news. A report from a website called American Greatness cites multiple unnamed sources who claim Lewandowski is romantically involved with South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem — who he is currently advising. The married Governor has called these allegations “total garbage and a disgusting lie.”

Immediately after the Politico piece came out, Lewandowski was promptly removed from his role as chair of the MAGA Action political committee with this statement: “Corey Lewandowski will be going on to other endeavors and we very much want to thank him for his service. He will no longer be associated with Trump World.”

I think it’s safe to say that President Trump is very unlikely now to endorse Eric Greitens — a former Navy SEAL — who was accused of sexually assaulting and taking an unauthorized picture of his mistress — if he is this quick to throw Corey Lewandowski under the bus over his alleged sexual assault allegations. I personally don’t believe Mr. Trump is going to endorse anyone in this Senate race and I hope he doesn’t. We have a great field of candidates and I’d like to see the best candidate with the best platform and campaign rise to the top without any outside influences.
