The often embattled FL Governor Ron DeSantis shared the news of his family’s personal battle.
From Fox News:
“I am saddened to report that Florida’s esteemed First Lady and my beloved wife has been diagnosed with breast cancer,” the first term Republican governor said in a statement shared first with Fox News on Monday.
“As the mother of three young children, Casey is the centerpiece of our family and has made an impact on the lives of countless Floridians through her initiatives as First Lady. As she faces the most difficult test of her life, she will have not only have my unwavering support but the support of our entire family, as well as the prayers and well wishes from Floridians across our state. Casey is a true fighter, and she will never, never, never give up,” the governor emphasized.
Prior to becoming first lady of Florida, the 41-year-old DeSantis pursued an accomplished career as an three-time equestrian national champion, and a runner-up NCAA division one champion. DeSantis was also a producer and Emmy-award winning television show host for the PGA tour.
Casey DeSantis and the Governor have been married for 11 years, and are parents to three children: Madison (4 years old), Mason (3 years old) and Mamie (18 months old). Mamie was the first baby born in the Florida governor’s mansion in more than half a century.
The diagnosis is particularly poignant because October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This annual campaign works to raise awareness about the impact of breast cancer on women, men, and their families, and offer resources and support for those battling the disease as well as survivors.
