CA RECALL: Newsom Gaslights on Crime Stats, L.A. Police Sergeant Claps Back

Our Editor-at-Large Kira Davis wrote about the rampant and brazen crime that plagues California thanks to Governor Gavin Newsom’s malfeasance, progressive crime measures like Prop. 47, and supporting district attorneys who coddle criminals and violate victims.

But the brazenness has not only led to billions in lost revenue, property damage, and businesses and centers of commerce shutting down because of the lack of policing, in Los Angeles’ Glassell Park area, this has resulted in the death of a retail worker:

From local Fox News 11:

Last week, a confrontation with shoplifters turned deadly for a Rite Aid employee in Glassell Park. Miguel Penaloza, 36, was shot and killed during what was supposed to be his last shift before starting a new job.

Police continue to look for the two men captured on video grabbing two cases of beer and trying to leave without paying when Penaloza tried to stop them.

Across the state, there has been a sharp rise in shoplifting.

A witness took a cell phone video of two suspects with over $950 worth of items walking out of a TJ Maxx in Granada Hills without paying last week as shoppers watched in disbelief.

It’s not just the insolence and evil that is difficult to stomach, but the lack of safety the community feels, particularly in spaces where they used to frequent without problems. For the elderly, it’s a particular problem, because they have to go outside of their radius in order to fulfill their daily or weekly needs, or they are isolated to their homes.

I happened on a Facebook exchange between women in their 70s and 80s, who live in what would be considered upper-middle class areas of the Los Angeles:

I personally know the Facebook poster and one of the commenters—they are in no way conservative-leaning. So, the media and Newsom’s insistence that complaints about his handling of crime are a “conservative” or “right-wing” issue smacks of hubris.

Then, Gov. Hair Gel had the audacity to say on Wednesday that crime has been on the decline for the past three decades.

You cannot make this stuff up.

Sgt. Jerretta Sandoz appeared on Fox & Friends this morning, and not only debunked Hair Gel’s happy gaslighting, but accused him of living in a fantasy world:

Los Angeles Police Protective League vice president Sgt. Jerretta Sandoz slammed Gov. Gavin Newsom, D., for denying a statewide rise in crime on “Fox & Friends” Friday, saying Newsom was living in a “fantasy world” and crime data and numbers don’t lie.

SGT. JERRETTA SANDOZ: That’s a fantasy world. Where are we living in? I mean, you could look at the numbers throughout California and the rest of the country. Crime is increasing. It is surging, and there’s no consequences.

There’s no repercussions for these criminals that feel that they could go in and do what they want. And it’s because of these laws. That statement is not true. The numbers don’t lie.

There are too many mentally ill individuals who are on the streets of California; we see them all the time, some of them naked or clothed in dirty tatters, interacting with invisible forces that only they can see. It evokes both sadness, and anger that a system that has had billions poured into it still fails in resolving the plight of such individuals.

Newsom is the mirror image of that mentally ill person we see on the street. As Sgt. Sandoz so aptly stated, he lives in a fantasy world that no one else can see, and interacts in this world as if it is reality.

For every Californian who observes this, we have either of the above reactions: Sadness, or Anger. Of late, it’s been anger.

San Francisco journalist Erica Sandberg commented on my tweet, and had this to say:

“[A]n entire industry has been created to deny the crime spike in California – and in San Francisco specifically. it’s not working. in fact, its backfiring badly.”

Like Olympia Dukakis in Moonstruck, Sgt. Sandoz slaps Hair Gel across the face, screaming, “Snap out of it!”

Stronger medicine is needed to break him out of his delusions. This is why he’s being Recalled.
